Sculpture Garden De Havixhorst

Art lover or not, a visit to our sculpture garden cannot be missed. The castle gardens of De Havixhorst contain over 100 statues from 20th-century Dutch figurative sculpturers. In addition to the permanent collection of sculptures by artists such as Jan Bronner, Pieter d'Hont, Eric Claus, Charlotte van Pallandt, Eddy Roos, Piet Esser and others, there is a particularly varied offer. Small advantage: it costs nothing! The sculpture garden is open every day, all day, for our hotel guests.

Hiking

Right out of the gate, you'll walk into the forest which belongs to the historic Havixhorst estate. This quiet forest, which traditionally served as a park, also borders the river De Reest. As a fanatic hiker, you can follow this river and walk the Estate Route, which will take you along another monumental estate, Dickninghe.
Not enough? Have a look at this route or start a little further on, in the state forest Staphorst or Havelterberg. After such a brisk walk you can honestly say you've deserved a fancy dinner at our restaurant!

(Mountain) Biking

There are plenty of options for a brisk bike ride in the vicinity of De Havixhorst. For example, this 45 km route through the beautiful Reestdal or the Tour of Happiness, showing the most beautiful places in the surroundings of Meppel. No bike? No problem. We can take care of that for you. Are you looking for a more sporty route? A little more hills and mud? Close to De Havixhorst, in the Staatsbos Staphorst, you will find a challenging MTB route of about 26 km through a rich heather and fens landscape. The route contains winding and challenging single tracks and many bends with an occasional light climb.

Sightseeing

Want to get out and about? In the vicinity of De Havixhorst you will find, among other things, lively Meppel and the hanseatic city of Zwolle. In both places you can stroll through the cozy shopping center and enjoy the atmospheric city squares. For a relaxing boat trip, you can drive to Giethoorn in just over 20 minutes. Also, just a stone's throw away from De Havixhorst you'll find the traditional, Dutch reformed village Staphorst.
Tip: plan a visit to the prison village of Veenhuizen. With the Prison Museum and Maallust beer brewery, both dad and son can have their cake and eat it too!
